SMTP protocol – What it is

“Simple Mail Transfer Protocol – (from “simple mail transfer protocol”) is a network protocol that is designed to transfer mail.”

The term is often confused with IMAP and POP. But SMTP is a protocol for sending mail, when IMAP and POP ー handling the internals after receiving the mail.
